Self-control exertion and caffeine mouth rinsing: Effects on cycling time-trial performance

چکیده
Abstract Objectives The exertion of self-control has been associated with impaired performance on subsequent physical tasks also requiring self-control. However, the effect in well-trained individuals, and nutritional intervention strategies to reduce impact are unknown. This study, therefore, explored endurance performance, pacing strategies, individuals. A further aim was examine potential for a caffeine mouth rinse attenuate any decrements due exertion. Method Following familiarization, fifteen trained male cyclists completed four simulated 10 km cycling time-trials cycle ergometer. Prior each time-trial, participants congruent Stroop task, or an incongruent manipulate They received either (containing 40 mg dissolved caffeine) placebo mouth-rinse prior to, every 2 km during, time-trial. participants' time, subjective measures (perceived pain, motivation, task importance, RPE), heart rate, blood lactate concentration were recorded throughout time-trials. Data analysed using three-way (self-control*caffeine*split time) repeated ANOVA. Results There no overall time (all p > 0.05). following exertion, split significantly slower at 3 km (p = 0.031) 5 km (p = 0.034), tended be 1 km (p = 0.088) 7 km (p = 0.078). rinse, nor did this interact self-control, affect times not influence perceptions importance individuals Conclusions Findings suggest that affects self-regulatory during first rinsing does effects performance.

The effects of caffeine ingestion on time trial cycling performance.
AIM The purpose of this work was to determine the effects of caffeine ingestion on cycling time trial (TT) performance in well trained male subjects. METHODS Eight males, with the following physical characteristics (Mean +/- SD) age 30.2+/-10.1 years, height 180.3+/-7.1 cm, mass 70.4+/-5.1 kg, VO2max 63.6+/-4.4 mL.kg(-1).min(-1) undertook three 1 h TT performances on a VelotronPro cycle ergom...
متن کاملCarbohydrate Mouth Rinsing Enhances High Intensity Time Trial Performance Following Prolonged Cycling
There is good evidence that mouth rinsing with carbohydrate (CHO) solutions can enhance endurance performance (≥30 min). The impact of a CHO mouth rinse on sprint performance has been less consistent, suggesting that CHO may confer benefits in conditions of 'metabolic strain'. To test this hypothesis, the current study examined the impact of late-exercise mouth rinsing on sprint performance. Se...
متن کاملMouth Rinsing with Maltodextrin Solutions Fails to Improve Time Trial Endurance Cycling Performance in Recreational Athletes
The carbohydrate (CHO) concentration of a mouth rinsing solution might influence the CHO sensing receptors in the mouth, with consequent activation of brain regions involved in reward, motivation and regulation of motor activity. The purpose of the present study was to examine the effects of maltodextrin mouth rinsing with different concentrations (3%, 6% and 12%) after an overnight fast on a 2...
متن کاملSingle and combined effects of beetroot juice and caffeine supplementation on cycling time trial performance.
Both caffeine and beetroot juice have ergogenic effects on endurance cycling performance. We investigated whether there is an additive effect of these supplements on the performance of a cycling time trial (TT) simulating the 2012 London Olympic Games course. Twelve male and 12 female competitive cyclists each completed 4 experimental trials in a double-blind Latin square design. Trials were un...
